MITCHELL – Barbara J. Knowles, 79, passed away at 11:02 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born November 15, 1933, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Dale “Red” and Velma M. (Bixler) Lanier. She married William F. Knowles February 25, 1951.

Barbara was a homemaker and a member of Tulip Street Christian Church and the Lawrence County Art Association.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 30, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

    Barbara was a great friend and we shared many memories. Making own paper dolls!!! She tried to teach me to harmonize but I didn't have a clue. Special person in my memories.

    I am Mary Sue Thompson's step-daughter. So sorry for your loss. I will always remember when I came down once with Mary Sue to visit Barbara and when I came in the front door her christmas tree fall on me. We got such a big kick out of that. Barbara was such a nice lady. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.
