HURON – Carolyn “Jo” Besser, 80, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, September 22, 2016, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Born October 18, 1935, in Madison County, she was the daughter of James Lloyd “Mike” and Ruth (VanBlair) Harrison. She married Joe Daniel Besser June 17, 1956, and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Jo had been employed at Guide Lamp, Cummins Engine, and Monroe County School Corporation. She graduated from Frankton High School in 1953 and attended business college. She was a member of the Huron Baptist Church and had served as pianist since 1983. She served as state treasurer of the American Baptist Women Association and secretary and past president of the American Baptist Women Association of Kentucky and Indiana. Jo was instrumental in establishing Meals on Wheels in Seymour. She was very active in her church, family, community, and was a member of the Huron WTK Club.

Her parents preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 27, at the Huron Baptist Church with William Mathews officiating. Burial will be in Huron Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Tuesday at the church.
