HURON – Gene “Stub” Sanders, 83, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016, at his residence.

Born July 26, 1933, in Orleans, he was the son of Clarence D. and Hazel M. (Goodpaster) Sanders. He married Marion R. Caraway February 21, 1957, and she preceded him in death February 4, 2003.

He retired from National Gypsum with 31 years of service, and in retirement, he repaired lawnmowers.  Gene was a member of Martin County Coon Hunters Club, Orange County Conservation Club, Mitchell Senior Citizens, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He loved spending time with  his family.

He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post No. 250.

His parents and siblings, Leon Sanders, William Sanders, Dorothy Lane, Robert Sanders, Wanda Woodford, and JoAnn Sanders, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Reverend Mike Williams officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Horeb Baptist Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

    "Stub" wasn't related to my bunch, but was a good friend, as are his sons and daughter! My sincere condolences to all of you and your families, as your father leaves this world for a much better place.
