MITCHELL – George “Corky” James, Jr., 87, passed away at 7:20 a.m. Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.
BornNovember Born November 17, 1925, in Mitchell, he was the son of George Clark and Violet (Fiddler) James, Sr. He married Dorothy Jane Rogers December 31, 1945.
He retired from Mitchell Community Schools as head of the maintenance department, and served on the Mitchell Fire Department for 25 years. As a member and fire chief, Corky received a Key to the City of Mitchell. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1944 and was a life member of the Mitchell Presbyterian Church.
He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of American Legion Post No. 250.

Corky was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Martha, and his parents.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 19, at the Mitchell Presbyterian Church with Pastor Sara Shields officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center, and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Friday at the church.
