MITCHELL – Harry “Sonny” Dorsett, 89, passed away at 10:50 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born February 24, 1924, in Pittsburg, Illinois, he was the son of Harry H. and Maude (Weddle) Dorsett. He married Sheila Carroll January 13, 1946.
For 38 years Sonny owned and operated the Phillips 66 and Marathon service stations at Four Points in Mitchell. He served 16 years on the Mitchell Community Schools School Board during the construction of Hatfield Elementary School and the Mitchell Junior-Senior High School.
Sonny attended the Mitchell Presbyterian Church and was a member of Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F.&A.M. He graduated from Huron High School in 1942.
He was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and served in Italy. His decorations and citations included World War II Victory Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 7 Bronze Stars, and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 250.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Harry Clinton “Butch” Dorsett; and siblings, Pauline Abram, Frances Embree, Wilma Shearhart, Robert Dorsett, Lawrence Dorsett, William Dorsett, and Patty Moffatt.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 31, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Larry Brown officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.
