MITCHELL – James R. “Jim” Kirkman, 86, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born June 9, 1930, in Avoca, he was the son of Cornie and Tressie (Swango) Kirkman.  He married Mary Elizabeth Broaddus August 16, 1981.

Jim began working at Indiana Limestone Company, then was a furniture salesman, and retired as a guard from National Gypsum in 2014.   Jim’s first love was the Lord, then his wife, Mary, who was by his side 40 years as they enjoyed hobbies around their home.  For the last 20 years he attended Liberty Baptist Church, the finest of God’s people.

His parent; sons, Douglas Kirkman, Scott Kirkman, and Larry Kirkman; siblings, Jack Kirkman, Mary McDowell, and Barbara Flynn; and great grandson, Trey Ikerd,  preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, at Liberty Baptist Cemetery with Reverend Wade Judy officiating.

Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, March 10, at Haverly Funeral Chapel.
