MITCHELL – Mary Elizabeth McKinney Wardrip, 89, passed away at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013, at IU Health Bloomington Hospice House.

Born September 29, 1923, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Paul R. and Nellie (Ryker) LaShorne, Sr.   She married Dr. Clair C. McKinney December 1, 1945, and he preceded her in death June 6, 1971.  She and Rev. Howard Wardrip were married July 6, 1985, and he preceded her in death May 14, 2001.

Mary graduated from Howe High School and founded Mitchell Optical in 1950.  She had previously taught Sunday School at Old Union United Methodist Church.

Surviving:      daughters, Donna (David) LaRocca  Mitchell
                                     Cheryl (Alan) Wood, Mitchell
                                     5 grandchildren
                                   18 great grandchildren                             

 Her parents; husbands; and brothers, Dr. Paul R. LaShorne, Jr., and William LaShorne, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Rev. Pat Sinnott officiating.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

    To Cheryl and family: So sorry to hear of your dear Mother's passing. I worked for her for several years before getting married and the birth of my twins. She was always so kind to me and I dearly loved her. My brothers, Tom & Gary Johnson, worked on her farms years ago. You will all be in my prayers for comfort and strength.     cheryl and alan and all the family... so sorry for your loss of your loved one. alan... so glad we got to talk at the bloomington hospital. missed seeing you there before sean came home fri. now i know why. it gave me great comfort to talk to you that day in the rehab waiting room and i hope i did you ( about being saved and our past lives). mary is walking now and out of that wheelchair and with her husbands in heaven, i know she is!!!! she's happy!!!!! GOD is great and lean on him for comfort in your grief!!! have been praying for you. i told howdy about mary and he was sad but he knows she's in a better place too. we all will be together with our loved ones again!!!! stay strong!!!!
