Mary Ruth Atchison, 90, passed into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at 5:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, Texas.

She was born the daughter of Charles and Nora (Collins) Watterson, of the Georgia Community, Mitchell, Indiana, on June 23, 1922. She married Paul Phipps on October 2, 1937, later she married John F. Goldsberry on April 7, 1978, and lastly she married Leland Atchison in 1986, all preceded her in death.

She attended Huron School; and worked for a time at Reliance Manufacturing in Mitchell and Trav-Ler Radio Corporation in Orleans, IN. She also worked for W.T. Grant Department Store, in addition to being a homemaker.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Lynn Menville of Somerville, Texas; two sons, Paul G. Phipps of Lexington, IN, and Retired Col. Melvin L. Phipps of Montgomery, Alabama; 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and ten great great grandchildren; and sisters, Madge Reynolds of Mitchell, Norma Tincher of Mitchell, and Lorene Morrow of Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Clyde Lavern Phipps; sisters, Adah Schmidt and Clara Bryant; and brothers, John, Noble, Lester, James, Isom, and Floyd Watterson.

Services for Mary Ruth Atchison will be held Sunday, December 30, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Millard Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, where she was a member.

Visitation will be on Saturday, December 29, 2012, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and from noon until the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
