MITCHELL – Philis Burton Sears, 77, passed away at 5:37 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born April 11, 1935, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Coen Edward and Gertrude E. (Morris) Walton. She married Morris Burton November 7, 1964, and he preceded her in death March 12, 1976. Her second marriage was to Paul F. Sears on September 1, 1978.
She was an Avon Representative for more than 20 years and loved watching her beloved Hoosiers. Philis graduated from Mitchell High School in 1953, and was a member of the Mitchell Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Paul F. Sears of Mitchell; children, Trudie (Tim) Dillman of Mitchell, John Burton of Meridian, Mississippi, and Susan (Steve) Marlman of Salem; stepchildren, Matina Hobson of Mitchell, Paul Anthony Sears of Bedford, and James Michael Sears of New Albany; brother, Morris (Nancy) Walton of Paoli; five grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Her parents and first husband preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Bro. Allen Burris officiating. A private family burial will be on Friday in Mitchell Cemetery.
