MITCHELL – Ray Edward “T-Bone” Blackerby, 92, passed away at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.
Born June 28, 1920, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Rice and Grace (Barlow) Blackerby. He married Betty Shoults December 24, 1946, and she preceded him in death May 23, 2005.
He retired from Mitchell Motor Sales with 28 ½ years of service. Ray was a member of the Mitchell Wesleyan Church and Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F&AM.
He was an avid bowler, a St. Louis Cardinals fan, and enjoyed IU basketball and hunting arrowheads.
Ray served in the United States Army from March 1942 to January 1946 and served in the Philippine Campaign. He was a 59 year member of American Legion Post No. 250, a 30 year member of the Honor Guard, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 58 years; and brothers, Earl Blackerby and Nelson “Bud” Blackerby.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Bro. Jerry Allen officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
