MITCHELLRev. Ernest Gerald Speer, 76, passed away at 9:09 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014, at his residence.

Born January 24, 1938, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Hubert Earl and Lois Ellen (Kindred) Speer.  He married Barbara Sue Brown July 14, 1956, and she preceded him in death December 12, 2010.  His second marriage was to Mona Moore February 11, 2011.

He was a carpenter and the minister of the Mitchell Pentecostal Church.

 His parents; stepmother, Mary Tidd Speer; and siblings, Wilburn, Everett, Jasper, Edwin, Delbert, and Curtis Speer; Paul, Raymond, Charles, and Robert Tidd; and sisters, Geneva Henderson and Eva Silver, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 17, at the Bride of Christ Fellowship with Brother Jerry Allen and Reverend Jay Bennett officiating.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Monday at the church.

    Papaw was a great guy and truck driver and always had a story to tell us when he came through. All of us at the quarry thought the world of him. And he will be missed greatly. But his stories and memories will live on through his kids and grandkids. We are so sorry for your loss, you are in our thoughts.
