BLOOMINGTON – Richard Douglas “Doug” Williams, 65, formerly of Mitchell, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015, saving his family from a burning ship sinking at sea.
Born June 28, 1949, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Richard A. and Betty J. (Williams) Williams. He was married to Helena Alexander and she preceded him in death.
He had a quirky sense of humor with a memorable laugh. He loved people and spending time with family and friends. He loved bicycling, history and art, and was an avid reader. He had an adventurous spirit and loved traveling. Doug graduated from Mitchell High School in 1967.
Doug worked 27 years at Mills Market before being employed at Pepsi~Cola and was a member of Teamsters Local No. 135.

His wife and stepdaughter, Mary Jo Grant, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Jim Hatfield officiating.
Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Cremation was chosen.
