MITCHELL – Robert D. Allen, 77, passed away at 2:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born July 25, 1936, in Stonington, he was the son of Cecil and Elsie (Robertson) Allen.

Bob was an auctioneer and owner of Allen Auction Service.  He was a member and former elder of the First Christian Church, and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1954.  He was a member of Prospect Masonic Lodge No. 714 F&AM, LaOrMa Shrine Club,  Odd Fellows Lodge in Campbellsburg, and Spring Mill Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 172.  His community involvement included Little League Baseball, high school sports announcer, basketball and softball official, sports teams sponsor, Mitchell-Orleans Exchange Club, Mitchell Jaycees, Mitchell Lions Club, Lawrence County Cancer Chairman, Lawrence County Crusade for Children, volunteer fireman, school bus driver for Mitchell and Orleans schools, Lawrence County 4-H Fair Board, and auctioneer for Christmas Fantasia, sponsored by L.I.F.E.

                                     Kelli (Craig) Duncan, Bloomington
mother of his daughters, Evelyn (Wilson) Allen, Indianapolis
               grandchildren, Cole Parton, Gabriel Mosqueda, and Camryn Parton
                          sisters, Rosemary Brewer, Mitchell
                                     Sue Ann Wilkerson, Mitchell
                                     Several nieces and nephews

His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Haverly Funeral Chapel with Brother Josh Brumfield officiating.  Burial will be in Lawrenceport Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F&M will conduct a memorial service at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

    I am extremely sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. When I heard this all I could think about is all the support that he provided to so many of us athletes always being there with words of encouragement and congratulations, along with the occasional get your head out of your eggs. I am sure none of us will be able to forget his support.
