MITCHELL – Robert E. Tanksley, 85, Mitchell, passed away at 6:36 p.m. Sunday, November 27, at Dunn Memorial Hospital, Bedford.

Born December 10, 1919, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Claude and Bessie (Brim) Tanksley. He married Dorothy Helen Ingram February 21, 1939, and she survives.

He was a retired dispatcher for the Mitchell Police Department and attended Liberty Baptist Church. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250.

His parents; brothers, Elbert and Leon Tanksley; and granddaughter, Leslie, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Graham officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veteran of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
