LAKE PLACID, FLORIDA – Ronald Wayne Newby, 67, formerly of Mitchell, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017, in Sebring, Florida.

Born August 24, 1949, in Noblesville, he was the son of Townsend Wayne and Anna Lorene (Bentley) Newby.  He married Helen Louise McPherson September 3, 1967.

Ron retired from General Electric.  Ron enjoyed playing golf and Texas Holden Poker, following NASCAR and the “PBR.”

He was a veteran of the Indiana Army National Guard and a member of American Legion Post No. 25 in Lake Placid, and a lifelong member of the Moose Lodge No. 540 in Noblesville, Indiana.

His parents; brother, Roger Newby; son-in-law, “Bo” Voorhies; brother-in-law, Ed Learned; sister-in-law, Lucy Riddle; mother-in-law, Maxine (Morris) McPherson; and father-in-law, Medford Wayne McPherson; preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 18, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Gillen Post No. 33.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
