MITCHELL – Roxanne Gilbert, 54, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 7, 2014, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born April 25, 1960, in Gary, she was the daughter of John E. “Gene” and Annabeth (Christy) Kacher. She married Steven C. Gilbert November 27, 1987.

For several years Roxanne was director of the First Baptist Church Daycare where she was a member, and loved by all. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1979.

 parents, Gene and Beth Kacher, Mitchell

 grandchildren, Chase Flynn, Charity Flynn, Nicholas Flynn, Eli Flynn,
and Bella Ruth Flynn
 siblings, Raymond E. (Janie) Kacher, Merrillville
 Alice (Joe) McFadden, Bedford

 numerous nieces and nephews

Her grandparents, Lloyd and Hilda Christy, and mother-in-law, Emily Gilbert, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 11, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Reverend Dwight Dunbar officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

    We met Roxanne when we were transferred from Kansas to Mitchell, Indiana in 1986. She was always the sweetest girl with the biggest smile. We loved having her wait on us at the Legion on steak nights. The world was a better place after having her here and she will be greatly missed. Caring thoughts go to her family.
