MITCHELL – Steven Bret Canfield, 53, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018, at Indiana University Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born September 28, 1964, at Warner Robins Air Force Base in Georgia, he was the son of Michael J. and Karen Sue (Stafford) Canfield.  He married Heather Renee Bridwell October 24, 2005.

Steve had been a firefighter at Naval Surface Warfare Center—Crane, paramedic at Bedford Regional Medical Center, chief deputy of the Marion Township Fire Department, and firefighter for the City of Mitchell.  He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1982, and was an avid knife collector.

He was a U. S. Air Force veteran and a member of American Legion Post No. 250.

Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 11, at Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
