MITCHELL — Walter I. Porter, 77, passed away at 4:55 p.m. Monday, December 26, 2011, at White River Lodge in Bedford.

Born May 18, 1934, in Harrison County, he was the son of Harry E. and Margaret Jessie (Ferber) Porter. He married Mary Alice Stone July 24, 1954, and she preceded him in death February 11, 2010.

He retired from Regal Beloit and was a member of Fishing Creek Chapel and attended Tulip Street Christian Church. Walter was a veteran of the U. S. Army.

His parents; wife; sons, Michael I. Porter and Bradley D. Porter; brothers, Elmer Porter and Gerald Porter; and sisters, Marie Vaught, Agnes White, and Beatrice Milligan, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 29, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Graham officiating.

Burial will be in Lawrenceport Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
