William H. “Bill” Williams, age 71, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on Thursday September 7, 2017. He was a resident of Bedford, Indiana. Born on February 5, 1946 in the family home in Huron, Indiana, he was the youngest child of the late Doan S. & Agnes (Barlow) Williams. He was a 1964 graduate of Mitchell High School. He graduated in 1969 from Butler University with his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and received his Master’s Degree from Depauw University.
He married Evelyn S. (Robertson) Williams on November 25, 1972 and she survives.

He taught at Indiana School for the Deaf, Burris Elementary School, Mitchell High School and Monrovia High School over the span of 16 years. Throughout his education tenure, he taught Physical Education, Driver’s Education, Biology and Building Trades. During his time teaching building trades is where he discovered his talent and passion for construction.

Bill remodeled and built new homes for 40+ years. He developed Southridge Subdivision and Southridge Villages and prided Bill Williams Construction on craftsmanship and building high quality homes.

He was current president and active member of the Lawrence County Home Builders Association. He enjoyed many nights with family and friends at the American Legion Post No. 33 and the Bedford Elks Lodge.

His hobbies included woodworking, classic cars, playing cards, coaching basketball, and antiquing. Bill liked to tinker around fixing any and everything, including custom family projects. He cherished times spent with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 45 years, Evelyn S. Williams; four children, William H. “Bill” Williams II, and his wife Darla; April M. Williams and her fiance, Jeff Herrmann; Shelley A. Williams, and her fiance Jeremy Blackwell; James “Dallas” Williams and his wife Baylee; grandchildren, Brodie, Ike and Adeline; sister, Loeda Mundy; brother, Gerald Williams and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Velma Thompson; sister-in-law, Charlene Williams; brothers-in-law, Lee Thompson and Knofel Mundy.

Visitation hours will be observed Sunday, September 10 from 1-5:00 PM at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 705 W. Warren St., Mitchell, IN 47446 The funeral will be there at 1:00 PM Monday, Sept. 11, 2017. He will be laid to rest privately at The Gardens at Olive Branch Cemetery, in Greenwood, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Evelyn for her medical expenses in her fight against bile duct cancer. Contributions may be made at the funeral home.

    Bill was a good friend and basketball teammate of mine at Butler! I was shocked and saddened to hear of Bill's passing. His good nature and great since of humor I'm sure will be missed by all.
