BEDFORD Anita Mayhugh, 79, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital from complications due to COVID and pneumonia.

Born February 11, 1941, in Danville, Kentucky, she was the only child of Reverend Mark and Louise (Loyd) Hamilton.  Anita married Chuck Mayhugh in 1961, and they lived in Colorado prior to Anita moving to Bedford, Indiana to care for her parents.

Preceding her in death is her father, Mark Hamilton in 2003, and her mother, Louise Hamilton, just a few months ago, on September 11, 2020.

Anita is survived by her daughters, Chiquita (Mark) Evert and Marquita (Ben) Romero; grandchildren, Kathy (Joey) Anguiano of Fort Collins, Colorado, Tori (Will) Mckechnie of Windsor, Colorado, Nikki (Ray) Ortiz of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Devyn Ewert of Prior Lake, Minnesota, and Trevor Ewert of Prior Lake, Minnesota.  She is survived by great-grandsons, Dylan Romero, Izais Anguiano and Westin Mckechnie.

Anita will be deeply missed by all who knew her and she will forever be in our hearts.  A special thank you to the staff at IU Paoli, IU Bedford, and IU Bloomington Hospitals for taking excellent care of her and also extending compassion to her daughters in this difficult time.

Due to COVID, a memorial service will be held at a later date when it is safe for us to gather.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 4, at Mitchell Cemetery. Pastors Ken Bushey, Duane Brown, and Reno Bates will officiate. Her daughters, Chiquita Ewert and Marquita Romero, will do the eulogy. A reception and luncheon will follow at the Momentum Community Church.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Friday at the cemetery.

I was in Walmart today in the garden center waiting to check-out when I noticed a wreath with Anita's picture. I was very sad to learn of her passing. I always used come in and out of that entrance and always looked forward to seeing Anita and really enjoyed chatting with her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Carolyn and I have wonderful memories of Anita as she carefully care for her mother. Also, Anita sought to attend church regularly even though Louise sometimes choose to attend another church. Anita seemed to adjust as needed. Anita's passing shocked us.

I just learned of Anita's passing and am so shocked and saddened...had no idea she was ill...she and Mrs. Hamilton were long time neighbors to my mother in the adjacent home behind them. I know the loving care she gave your grandmother looking after her for so many years....Anita and I had visited last fall "over the backyards" admiring her sugar maple and lilacs and talking about her next move since Mrs. Hamilton's passing. She was always kind and wise and full of energy...my heart is breaking for you all....Please take care.

I loved Anita & my heart is deeply saddened by her passing. She was wise, kind and spirited .Every encounter with her was a small adventure often ending with laughter and a hug. She meant alot of different things to a large number of people at 1026 and will be missed . Rest in peace my dear old friend.

I loved Anita. I met her at the old Walmart many years ago. We became friends. We shared family things . She was a good listener and although I don’t know her family I feel like I do. Our mothers were similar . Mine is 92. She always had a smile. I purposely went to lawn and garden because I knew my girls would be there. I missed going in and out that way because of covid. She had a particular way of checking me out. She almost knew what I bought ea week. Lots of pet supplies. I had no idea she had become ill. I’m so very sorry for your loss. Know she’s a bright light shining in heaven because she sure was on this earth. I miss her and know that she was loved by many.
