MITCHELL – Anne Ruth “Grannie Annie” (Baker) Keane, 88, passed away Friday, January 13, 2023, at Mitchell Manor.
Born July 14, 1934, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Russell D. and Ruby (Lavender) Baker. Anne married Robert Keane, Jr. on June 4, 1952, and he preceded her in death April 7, 2020. They had been married for 68 years.
Anne was a 1952 graduate of Bedford High School. She worked as a janitor at Mitchell High School and then babysat for many, many kids over the years. Anne and her husband, Bob, were involved in the Mitchell Youth Baseball. They helped build ball diamonds, one was for their son, Brian, who died in 1974. She loved watching all the kids play ball and also the Cincinnati Reds. Anne was a member of Tulip Street Christian Church and had previously been a 50-year member of the Mitchell Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Vanessa (Tom) Brooks of Mitchell; grandchildren, Amanda Halley-Geary and Brian Brooks; and great-grandchildren, Tristan Halley, Gracelyn Halley and Madalyn Halley. She is also survived by lots of nieces and nephews.
Her parents; husband; son, Brian Keane; and siblings, Reid Baker, Helen Farmer, Gerald Baker, and JoAnn Bond, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 18, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Max Timbrook and Jimmy Pierce officiating.
Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
