MITCHELL Arthur Denzil “Doc” Fortner, 94, Mitchell, passed away at 5:00 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009, at Garden Villa in Bedford.
Born December 21, 1914, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Dennis and Daisy (Crouch) Fortner. He married Grace Mildred Smith March 15, 1941, and she preceded him in death October 2, 2003.
He was a carpenter. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1933 and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

His father, and mother, Daisy (Crouch) Quackenbush Fortner; sisters, Georgia Taylor and Mary Adamson; brothers, Russell, Lance, and Winford Quackenbush; one niece and two nephews, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 Tuesday, January 27, in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Daniel Hopkins and Rev. Bill Graham officiating. Burial will be in Talbott Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at Chastain Funeral Home and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Tuesday at the church.
