MITCHELL – Barbara J. Beeler, 96, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her family.
Born June 20, 1928, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of William Clyde and Harriet (Mann) Brown. She married John Wesley Beeler on June 22, 1950, and he preceded her in death June 22, 1998.
Barbara graduated from Mitchell High School in 1945. After graduation, she went to work at the Walls and Walls Insurance Agency in Bedford before beginning a 40 plus year career with the federal government. Barbara operated the Lawrence County Selective Service office until its closure. Following Selective Service, Barbara worked in the Farmers Home Administration (FHA) office and the U.S. Forest Service. She was a founding member of the Theta Alpha Gamma Chapter of Phi Beta Psi in Bedford and was a member of Tabernacle of Praise Church.
Survivors include her children, Randy (Debbie) Beeler of Mitchell and Cindy (Ellen Williams) Miller of Mitchell; grandchildren, Jason (Jenni) Beeler of Mitchell, Christen (Jack) Mitchell of Newburgh, and Bryan Beeler of Versailles; great grandchildren, Lauren (Luke) LaFevor of Mitchell, Kial, Jackson, and Paiton Mitchell of Newburgh; and sister, Ruth Pace of New Palestine. Barbara is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, Clyde and Harriet Brown; husband, John W. Beeler; brothers, John L. Brown and Robert J. “Base” Brown; and sisters, Mary Teegan Frazier and Carolyn McGrath, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Gary Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, June 16, and from 9:30 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
