MITCHELL – Cecil Page Melton, 88, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Paoli Health & Living Community.

Born February 9, 1935, in Cumberland County, Kentucky, he was the son of Brance Melton and Ethel Florence “Essie” (Thacker) Melton Hackney.  He married Nancy Manuel on July 13, 1990, and she preceded him in death August 19, 2019.

Cecil was a U.S. Army veteran.  He worked at the Feed Mill in Mitchell for 69 ½ years; starting there when he was 12 years old.  He enjoyed working and fishing.

Surviving are his children, Tim (Cindy) Melton of Hardinsburg, Cindy (Rod) Curren of Mitchell, Tammy (Keith) Bowling of Orleans, Roxanna Knowles of Mitchell, and Crystal (Dan) Jifkins of Paoli; step-children, Nellie (Rob) Stevens of Mitchell and Angel Wheeler of Mitchell; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

His parents; wife; daughters, Donna Richie and Cathy McFarland; granddaughter, Jennifer Bowden; stepsons, Andy Riley and James Manuel; and siblings, Paul Melton and Phil Melton, preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, in Mitchell Cemetery with Beth True officiating.  Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.  Burial will follow.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

    In 1982 I met Cecil and Nancy when visiting with my cousin whose husband was Nancy's brother. While we were visiting my brother came for a visit and ended up living with Cecil and Nancy as their foster child. After returning home with my cousin I was thrown out after an argument with my cousin. About 2 was later my brother shows up at the place I was staying , Cecil and Nancy had found out what had happened and sent him to come get me and I became their foster daughter. We didn't have much but we sure had a lot of love. Cecil and Nancy were our hero's and gave us the most stable home we had ever had. And we finished growing up with them as our parents. I love you both.

    he was such an awesome man and friend he was more like a papaw to me. my heart goes to all of you. i cant believe hes gone! i grew up around him. him and my papaw were best friends how awful to see him go i love all of you guys and will be praying for all of you !

    When I and my children meet Cecil and Nancy the was the sweetest couple they treated my kids like their own grandkids and I remember me and my son lived that Cecil Nancy and I helped Nancy get Cecil up out of the bed and put him in his chair and he was like man I will never forget they're always be in my heart my kids are always always call them Mama and Papa and I miss Nancy and I'll miss Cecil and God rest their soul and someday we'll be able to join them love you Cecil and Nancy
