MITCHELL – Charles R. “PeeWee” Jones, 82, Mitchell, (the man on the porch) passed away at 9:37 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007, at Bedford Regional Medical Center.

Born October 28, 1924, in Mitchell, he was the son of William A. and E. Lucille (Woodward) Jones. He married Janice Ann Smith March 18, 1951.

He was a rural mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service and retired in 1980 with 36 years of service.

He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a 63-year member and past commander of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250, and was currently serving as historian.

He was a member of Jacob Finger United Methodist Church and Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F&AM, and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1943.

His parents; brothers, John E. Jones, Biff Jones, and Howard Jones; and sisters, Helen Sipe, Oweetah Scott, and Norma Jean Jones, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 28, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Pastor Margaret Pruden and Chaplain Lee Hupp officiating. Entombment will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No 9107.

Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
