BEDFORD – Clyde Chastain, 93, Bedford, passed away at 4:25 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2007, at Westview Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born October 11, 1913, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Curtis and Effie (Enochs) Chastain. He grew up in the Bono area working on farms as a boy and young man. He always preferred to work with mules rather than horses. He was an avid gardener and loved to give away his produce.

He retired from GM Powertrain in 1975 and was a member of UAW Local 440. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Clyde married Florence Elizabeth McKinney November 14, 1934, and she preceded him in death December 7, 1994.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Charles Dean, who died shortly after birth; daughter, Carolyn Sue Wampler who passed away in April of 1995; brothers, Dale, Ray, Floyd, Claude, Clifford, Howard, and Theodore (Pete) Chastain; and sisters, Mrs. Rodden (May) Blevins and Mrs. Russ (Madge) Smith.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Hillenburg and Rev. Claude Chastain officiating. Burial will be in Lawrenceport Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
