MITCHELL Eugene Pruett, 89, Mitchell, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2008, at his residence.

Born June 9, 1919, in Mitchell, he was the son of Artie and Vanice (Arnold) Pruett. He married Ruth Louise Slater September 12, 1942.

Eugene touched many lives during his time here on earth. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in New Guinea and the Philippines. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1937, and during his tenure as a Boy Scout leader, he introduced the Soap Box Derby. He worked at Carpenter Body Works for 30 years lettering buses.

His ministry included 12 years at Old Union Christian Church, was a charter member of Tulip Street Christian Church, and 12 years at Carters Creek Christian Church where he was a member. He was also a member of the Limestone Crusaders and Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250.

His parents and sister, Evelyn Watterson, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 22, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Bro. Don Mahan officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 2:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, and from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Monday at the funeral home.
