MITCHELL – Floyd Ran “Skip” Payton, passed away Friday, January 25, 2019, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born February 3, 1924, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was the son of Thomas Bennett and Della Mae (Atwood) Payton.

Floyd retired from Lehigh Cement Company with 38 years of service.  He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Mervin Payton of Mitchell
several nieces and nephews

His parents and siblings, Clyde Payton, Marie Richason, Margie Massengell, and Hollis Payton, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Reverend Steve Jones officiating.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a. m. until the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

    Skip was our neighbor all of my life growing up. I can remember when I was a kid going to visit him and his mom and she had a big featherbed. He would always point out persimmons for me to pick up if I didn’t see them. Even as I grew up, I always stopped by with my daughter during the persimmon festival or when I seen him out in his yard on my visits to friends. So sorry and my thoughts and prayers are with his family.
