MITCHELL – Gearry George Hancock, 73, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019, surrounded by family and friends at his residence.

Born May 30, 1946, in Bedford, he was the son of Milton O. “Pete”   and Edna M. (Lucas) Hancock. He married Beverlee Kay King April 9, 1965.

Gearry was employed at Hancock Construction Company and for several years he worked for P. F. Environmental located at Lehigh Cement Plant.  He served on the City of Mitchell Fire Department for 47 years and was a graduate of Mitchell High School in 1964.  Gearry enjoyed helping others and being with family and friends.

Cynthia (Brian) Rainey of Mitchell

Mitchell and Grant Rainey

Jerry L. Hancock, Sr. of Mitchell
several nieces and nephews

His parents and brother, Milton O. Hancock, Jr., preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 1, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Phillip McDonald officiating.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Sunday and from noon until the service on Monday at the funeral home.

    Jerry, I am sorry for the loss of Gearry. I didn't know him, but have known you for years. Milton and I were drafted at the same time and took Basic Training at Camp Roberts Calif. Hard to believe that was over 67 years ago. My condolences to all your family.

    I remember Gearry wearing a belt buckle with a bulldozer picture on it in the 8th grade. He was already running heavy equipment with Jerry. Gearry worked his entire life and made Mitchell a much better place. RIP my friend.
