ORLEANS – Gene Lynton, 75, Orleans, formerly of Morgantown, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2007, at his residence.

Born November 22, 1931, in Orleans, he was the son of Harley and Roberta (Sanders) Lyton.

He graduated from Orleans High School in 1949 and continued a lifetime support of the athletic and band programs. In 2007 he was named an Orleans Bulldog Regiment Lifetime member and in his honor, the Gene Lynton Award was established to recognize a parent, band booster, or community member for their contribution to the band. He was a member of the Planning and Zoning Board for the Town of Orleans and a Dogwood Festival volunteer.

He graduated from Indiana University in 1954 and was a salesman for the Belknap Tool Company.

During the Korean War, he held the rank of Captain in the U. S. Air Force. He was a member of the Warren Brock American Legion Post No. 69 and was recognized with a special award in 2005.

His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17, at the First Baptist Church in Mitchell where he was a member. Reverend Robert Kirkman will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at noon on Monday, November 19, with military honors accorded by Warren Brock American Legion Post No. 69.

Friends may call from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Chastain Funeral Home, Mitchell.
