MITCHELL – Jackie “Jack” Gerald Woods, Sr., 84, passed away Friday, September 16, 2022 at Westview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Born July 9, 1938, in Georgetown, he was the son of James Walter Woods and Bernice Mahala (Hottell) Debler. He married Marilyn Sue Blackerby October 26, 1955 and she survives.
Jack was a veteran of both the US Army and US Navy. He retired from General Motors after 32 years and was a member of the UAW Local 440. Jack enjoyed fishing and hunting. He and Marilyn were snowbirds; going to Florida for 25 years. Jack was a member of the First Assembly of God.
Surviving are his: wife, Marilyn Sue Woods of Mitchell; children, Jack (Debra) Woods, Jr. of Bedford and Shannon Woods of Mitchell; grandchildren, Ashley (Denny) Stidham, Rachelle Johnson, Matt (Kristine) Woods, Chris (Brandi) Woods, Bretta Skinner, Lauren Woods, and Landon Woods; sister, Charline Marshall of Paoli; and ten great-grandchildren.
His parents and son, Ricky “Rick” Woods, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, September 22 in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 23 at Mitchell Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service, Thursday, at the funeral home.
