MITCHELL – Jackie Lee Chastain, 88, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.
Born October 21, 1933, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Fred Thomas and Mable M. (Compton) Chastain. He married Vivian Pierce on January 3, 1989.
Jack retired from the Bedford Unemployment Office and McIntyre Brothers. He was a 1951 graduate of Mitchell High School.
Jack was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 250.
Surviving: step-daughter, Robbie (James) Fletcher of Elkhart;
grandchildren, Joshua (Ashley) Fletcher of Angola, Quinton (Rachael) Fletcher of Middlebury, Adam Fletcher (Rachel) of Elkhart;
10 great-grandchildren;
nieces, Susan Mather, Pam Moore, and Cindy Garceau
nephew, Tom Mather
His parents and siblings, Betty Mather and William “Bud” Chastain, preceded him in death.
Graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, at Mitchell Cemetery with Dr. Robert C. Courson, Jr. officiating. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the service on Friday at the cemetery.
