MITCHELL James I. Williams, 94, Mitchell, died November 21, 2011, at Garden Villa in Bedford, Indiana of pneumonia.
Jim Williams was born in Lee County, Virginia on February 17, 1917. Jim graduated from Flatwoods High School in 1938. He enlisted in the Air Force on October 24, 1940 and Jim “G.I.” Williams served as a Staff Sergeant airplane parts specialist in the Southwest Pacific Theatre with the 2nd Service Squadron 5th Air Force. He returned to the U. S. January 19, 1945, and received an honorable discharge on August 28, 1945.
Jim married his high school sweetheart, Wanda (Hedrick) Williams on January 31, 1945. They lived in Bristol, Tenn. prior to moving to Mitchell, Ind. Jim retired from the Honey-Krust/Colonial/Bunny Bread Bakery in Bedford, Ind. in 1982 after 31 years. Jim enjoyed gardening, fishing, and camping with family and friends.
He was a member of Jacob Finger United Methodist Church, and a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge No. 228 F&AM in Mitchell, Ind., an Indiana charter member of the Jolly Sam’s Camping Club, and an active participate in the 2nd Service Squadron 5th Air Force reunions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lillie (Grear) Williams; one son, James I. Williams, Jr.; two sisters, Nancy Stiff and Alice Marcum.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Wanda Williams, Mitchell

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 26, at Jacob Finger United Methodist Church with Rev. Eric Kersey and Rev. Karen E. Devaisher officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the church.
