MITCHELL Jerry Eugene Slaten, 67, Mitchell, passed away at 4:10 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009, at his residence.

Born March 26, 1942, in Dubois County, he was the son of John Allen and Cora Elaine (Radcliff) Slaten. He married Henrietta Ruth Flora July 6, 1963.

He retired from Visteon and had worked at Crane. He was a member of the Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F&AM and the Paoli Church of the Nazarene. He also enjoyed hunting mushrooms.

Jerry served eight years in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of an Oak Leaf Cluster and Purple Heart.

His parents; sisters, Marybelle Goodman and Anna Frances Ball; and brother, John Slaten preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 11, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Bechtel officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

A Masonic Memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
