MITCHELL – John Edward Jones, Sr., 80, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Indiana University Health Hospice House.

Born December 1, 1942, in Bedford, he was the son of David Crockett and Sylvia (Tincher) Jones.  He married Wanda Bundy and she preceded him in death September 25, 2000.

John served in the Army National Guard.  He retired from RCA as a forklift driver.  John was a member of ABATE of Indiana, Region 10.

Surviving are his children, John Jones, Jr. of Mitchell, Troy Jones of Mitchell, and Tonya Hattabaugh of Mitchell; grandchildren, Alicia Jones, Rachel Hattabaugh, Trey Jones, Levi Hattabaugh, Skye Jones, Jonathan Hattabaugh and Tristen Jones; great-grandchildren, Kaylee McPherson, Josh McPherson, Jr. and Levi Hattabaugh, Jr.; and sister, Roberta Tow of Bedford.

His parents; wife, Wanda Jones; and siblings, Joseph Jones, Albert “Delbert” Jones, Betty Stancomb, Joyce Jones, Mary Jones, Elsie Irwin, Thelma Jones, and George Jones, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Reverend Reggie Clark officiating.  Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

    I have lots of memories of you some good some not! But I tell about the time I got to go to Texas with the family. We were going to visit little John. I even took my 3-4 month old son. I was thrilled and felt so good that you all decided to allow me to go on this trip with you. I remember stopping at some gas station and the mice were so crazy out of control you could see the running in swarms across the grass through the bushes, it was crazy. Any way that was behind us and on we went. Dallas was great!!! I took Charles (my 3-4 month old) swimming brought him in and he slept the rest of the night, which was a good thing cause I was off to the bar with all of the grownups Tonya still too young for bars….. was left to watch cj as we called him back then…got drunk, had a blast! I even got to see the build were JFK was shot from. So it was a great find. Come to find out the reason I got to go was cause there was a schedule fire to occur at the house I lived in and they didn’t want me knowing or being hurt during it!! lol. I say hey we were all winners there I got a free vacation, of course I had to find a new place to live, but I say it was worth it! I’m glad I knew you John I love your family and hope you are resting easy.

    My grandfather, was there for me when I needed it in life., I remember him taking me and his other grandkids on his Harley Davidsons and to hickory Hill , and then golden coral.

    I’m so sorry for your loss. I wish the best for all of the family. Sorry I couldn’t come to Mitchell I had to work. Everyone of you will be in my prayers. I know he will be sadly missed. He was a great man and very caring and giving.
