MITCHELL – John Edward Jones, 89, Mitchell, passed away at 4:23 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2007, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born November 24, 1917, in Mitchell, he was the son of William and Lucille (Woodward) Jones. He married Jennie Rose Trinkle October 12, 1940, and she preceded him in death August 16, 2004.

He retired from General Motors and was a member UAW 440. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1937 and was a member of Jacob Finger United Methodist Church.

He was a U. S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post NO. 250.

His parents; wife; brothers, Howard Jones and Biff Jones; and sisters, Helen Sipe, Oweetah Scott, and Norma Jean Jones, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Brother Eugene Pruett officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9107.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
