MORGAN, TEXAS – Judy Ann VanMeter, 69, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Texas Health Huguley Hospital.

Born May 28, 1954, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Cecil and Louise (Howard) Keith.  She married Roger D. VanMeter on December 18, 1982 and he survives.

Judy was a 1972 graduate of Mitchell High School and graduated from Indiana Business College in 1973. She worked 37 years at Haag International Engineers. Judy loved going to casinos and gambling. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed reading Stephen King novels.

Survivors include her husband, Roger VanMeter of Morgan, Texas; daughter, Jennifer VanMeter of Morgan, Texas; and brother, Roger “Moe” (Theresa) Keith of Mitchell.

Her parents; daughter, Julie Ann VanMeter; half-brother, Lloyd Parish; and half-sister, Shirley Sowders, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 21, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Dwight Dunbar officiating.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from noon until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to White River Humane Society or Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services.

    I spent many days with Judy and Paul O’Conner as Haag Engineering Trustees . We attended numerous Professional Conferences which guided our management of the Haag’s large retirement fund. Judy always acted and treated her responsibilities with the highest degree of care and diligence. Her presence will be remembered by all !!

    I'm saddened to hear of Judy's passing. Judy was one of the first people I met at Haag. She sat in on my job interview 25 years ago and was always a friendly face around the office. We even had a few fun conversations about horse racing when she bought a thoroughbred. Rest in peace Judy.

    I have many good memories of times with Judy at Mitchell High School and especially seeing her lead cheers at all of the games! I feel blessed to have been able to spend time with her at our 50th High School reunion last September and having margaritas with her, Wanda and Beth Ann at El Compadre in Mitchell the next day.
