MITCHELL – Rita Mae (Capien) Johnson, 70, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 at IU Health Hospice House.
Born July 23, 1952, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of George and Margie (Howell) Capien. She married John “JJ” Johnson on March 14, 1970 and he preceded her in death April 15, 2011.
Rita had worked at Mitchell Manor and ran JJ’s Taxidermy with her husband for many years. She had been a member of American Legion Post 250 Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9107 Auxiliary, and Bedford Boat & Sportsman’s Club. Rita was faithful to her family and loved being with them and her friends. She enjoyed riding boats and visiting with the Amish. Rita loved her dogs.
Survivors include her sons; John Edward (Rachel) Johnson, Jr of Mitchell and Michael Wesley Johnson of Mitchell; grandchildren, Anyastasia Johnson, Dillan Johnson, McKenzie Johnson, and Adalynn Johnson; great grandson, Waylon Mains; siblings, Judy Aldridge of Indianapolis, Vicki Johnson of Mitchell, and George Capien, Jr. of Indianapolis; and companion, Roger Dotts of Mitchell.
Her father; mother and stepfather, Margie and Rod Huffman; husband; and grandson, John E. Johnson III, preceded her in death.
Cremation has been chosen.
