BEDFORD Ronald “Ron” Gerkin, 67, 6265 Sandpit Road, Bedford, went to be with the Lord at 3:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at his residence.

Born April 16, 1941, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Lawrence and Thelma Mae (Clouse) Gerkin. He was first married to Faye Bowden and on September 4, 1993, he married Doris Ball.

He was a retired truck driver and a member of Teamsters Union Local #89. He was a former member of Lawrenceport Methodist Church and was a member of Woodville Baptist Church. He enjoyed drinking coffee at the Golden Gables Restaurant, woodworking, and spending time with his family.

Ron was a U. S. Army veteran.

His parents; brothers, Bernard and William L. “Bill” Gerkin; and brother in law, Glenn Ball, preceded him in death.

Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Friday in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Merle and Nellie Mullins officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 4:00 8:00 p.m. Thursday and from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.
