MITCHELL Roscoe Leland Jean, 87, Mitchell, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at Mitchell Manor and Living Rehabilitation Center.

Born May 11, 1922 in Mitchell, he was the son of Charles Edmund and Carrie Ola (Goldsmith) Jean. He married Sara L. Whittington February 14, 1942, and she preceded him in death December 6, 1978.

Ross served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) CO 556 in Angola, Indiana in 1940. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the Medical Corps as a Technician Fifth Grade. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. Mr. Jean’s decorations include the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Bronze Arrowhead, and Victory Medal World War II. He was a member of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250.

He retired from Artin Transportation in Hammond, Indiana, and was a member of the Jacob Finger United Methodist Church.

His parents; brothers, Edmund E. Jean, Mitchell, and William H. Jean, Bloomington; and two sisters, Lorena (Jean) Stephens, Mitchell, and Thelma (Jean) Reynolds, Bedford, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 11, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Rev. Eric Kersey and Bro. Greg Matthew officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.
