MITCHELL Roy R. Ritchison, 91, Mitchell, passed away at 10:15 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2011, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born December 30, 1919, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Clarence and Bertie (Johnson) Ritchison. He married Norma C. (Bridges) December 23, 1939.

Early in life he worked on the railroad, and retired from General Motors where he was a member of UAW Local 440. Roy was a member of the Huron Church of God and enjoyed farming and mushroom hunting.

A U. S. Navy Seabee veteran of World War II, he was awarded the Philippine Libertation Ribbon and Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal.

His parents; daughter, Julia Rose Gorrell; son, Roger Wayne Ritchison; sisters, Lucille Moore and Margaret Edwards; and brother, Ralph Ritchison, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 18, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Smoot and Eugene Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Port William Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
