MITCHELL Ruby T. “Mam” Pruett, 104, formerly of Huron, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born October 17, 1906, in Orange County, she was the daughter of John David and Amanda Elizabeth (Jones) Toliver. She was the second of nine children. She married Dennis I. Pruett March 3, 1928, and he preceded her in death November 11, 1978.

Ruby graduated from Orleans High School in 1924, earned a teaching certificate from Oakland City College and received B. S. degree and M. S. degree from Indiana University in Speech, Language, and Hearing Pathology. She taught 45 years in the
Mitchell Community Schools System. After retiring from teaching, Ruby accepted a position with Hoosier Uplands to rehabilitate stroke and speech impaired patients and she also worked with the Head Start program for 20 years. She retired in 1995.

She was a member of Indiana State Teachers Association, Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Tri Kappa, Delta Kappa Gamma, WTK Club, Fleur de Lis, American Speech and Hearing Association, and Indiana University Alumni Association.

Ruby was a lifetime member of Bonds Chapel United Methodist Church and had served as pianist, 50 years as church treasurer and many years as delegate to the United Methodist Church Conference.

Her parents; husband; brothers, Rex Toliver, Roy Toliver, infant Kenneth Toliver; and sisters, Lucille Tandy, Maggie Allbright, and Pauline Tackett; and granddaughter, Diana Dunbar Briscoe, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at Bonds Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Martindale and Rev. Dwight Dunbar officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Saturday at Chastain Funeral Home.
