MITCHELL Russell E. Bowden, 89, Mitchell, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010, at his residence.

Born May 9, 1921, in Bedford, he was the son of Earl L. and Erie Violet (Riley) Bowden. He married Marjorie Bridges August 28, 1943.

He retired from the B&O Railroad and graduated from Huron High School in 1939. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Mitchell Masonic Lodge No 228 F&AM.

Russell was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post No. 250.

His parents; brothers, Paul Bowden and Robert Bowden; and sister, Ruth Bridges, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 23, in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Graham officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday at Chastain Funeral Home and from 1:00 p.m. until the service on Sunday at the church.
