MITCHELL – Russell “Gene” Tanksley, 83, passed away Thursday evening, April 25, 2013, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born June 2, 1929, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Noble and Ruby (Taylor) Tanksley. He married Juanita Madge Jones June 2, 1952, and she preceded him in death August 30, 2009.

He retired from Regal Beloit and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1948. Gene was a member of Woodville Baptist Church.

He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Roland, Ronald, Roy K., and Rex Tanksley; and sisters, Ruth Sipes and Rowena Elrod.

Funeral will be at 10:30 Monday, April 29, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Rev. Glenn Hamer officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 a.m. Monday until the service at the funeral home.
