SALTILLO Scott Newt Tolbert, 85, Saltillo, passed away at 8:35 p.m. Monday, September 5, at his residence.

Born February 19, 1920, in Orange County, he was the son of Edward and Stella (Pruett) Tolbert. He married Jean Gould March 21, 1941, and she preceded him in death July 5, 1990.

He was a World War II Army veteran and served with the 186th Infantry in the South Pacific.

He retired from Mitchell Transport and was a member of Saltillo Christian Church. He graduated in 1938 from Campbellsburg High School and enjoyed gardening, yard work, all sports, and being with his family.

daughters, Sue Baker and husband, Ron, Orleans
Brenda Hall and husband, Tim, Bedford
Cassie Moore and husband, Tyree, Bedford
sister, Mildred Jackson, Saltillo
brother, Byron Tolbert, Mitchell
9 grandchildren
12 great grandchildren
His parents; wife; brothers, Willis Tolbert and Wayne Tolbert; sister, Imogene Hall; two grandchildren; and three great grandchildren preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 9, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Reverend Dwight Dunbar officiating. Burial will be in Saltillo Cemetery with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.
