MITCHELL Vernon J. Green, 82, Mitchell, passed away at 7:20 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2008, at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born July 27, 1926, in Mitchell, he was the son of Louis and Theresa (Davis) Green. He married Dymple Pruitt July 16, 1945.

He retired from US Gypsum and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1945. Vernon was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

A U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Naval Armed Guard as a Gunners Mate Third Class aboard the USS Dartmouth in the South Pacific and was the recipient of a Bronze Star. He was a member of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250.

He was co-owner of Dymple’s Delight Persimmon Products from 1968-1998.

His parents; brothers, Everett and Arthur Green; and sisters, Mildred Cummings and Margaret Maas, preceded him in death.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 30, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Rick Eldred and Father Paul Landwerlen officiating. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Chastain Funeral Home.

A rosary service will be at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
