MITCHELL – Waldo Emerson Gill, 86, Mitchell, formerly of Metropolis, Illinois, passed away at 6:37 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2007, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born November 24, 1920, in Sturgis, Kentucky, he was the son of Huron Ray and Stella Agnes (Fishback) Gill. His paternal grandparents were William R. and Alice (Richey) Gill, M. D.; maternal grandparents, Joseph and Melissa (Hopkins) Fischbach; and paternal great grandparents, Adolphus and Catherine Fischbach.

He was a retired auto parts salesman and a member of Seven Mile Baptist Church.

He was a US Army veteran of World War II and a member of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250.

Surviving: daughter,
Carol S. Roop and husband, Claude, Mitchell
son,
James Waldo Roop, Chattanooga, Tennessee
3 grandsons
2 great grandsons and a great granddaughter

His parents; brothers, John R., William, Charles, Tommy, and Pete Ray Gill; and sister, Agnes Myers, preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. (CDT) Tuesday, October 30, at Massac Memorial Gardens in Metropolis, Illinois with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 305, Metroplis, Illinois.
