I really did not put things together until here in the last fifteen years or so ………Bill and dad were both county agents together in Rush Co., both went through WWII, both loved farming, both loved Purdue and Bill’s wife and my mother both went through nurses training together at Methodist. Hascue and I were both at Purdue at the same time and we both took a computer course we both really enjoyed. I only had the opportunity to meet and talk to Bill two or three times but the times I did really enjoyed listening to him. I liked his stories about him and Gus riding their Cushman cycle from Mitchell to the bedford air strip and Gus flying the plane around the apple tree. Of most importance in 1947 one could not enroll at Purdue without having living quarters and as Bill did not, he could not enroll. One week into school Gus found a basement apartment available, he called Bill and asked him if he wanted it, he said yes and Gus drove back to Mitchell that night and they got Bill enrolled early the next morning. I heard Bill on the Indianapolis radio station one night and he told some great stories but the one he did not tell was about him and Gus tearing the boards off the side of the barn so they could make some stock racks for the pickup so they could take his calf to the 4-H Fair at the Purdue Moses Fell Farm. And I remember Bill saying one Sunday night he saw Gus closing the farm gate and he asked him where he was going and he said …….the moon! Bill was a good County Agent and Gus’s best wing man. Bill had a good life and he will be missed!
