MITCHELL – William Fredrick Knowles, 88, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2020, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.

Born June 27, 1932, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Paul and Ruth (Davis) Knowles.  He married Barbara Jean Lanier February 25, 1951, and she preceded him in death May 24, 2013.  His second marriage was to Roxanna Lea Melton.

Bill retired from Lehigh Cement Company.  He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1950 and served on the Mitchell City Council.  Bill was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107 and Bedford Boat and Sportsman Club.  He was a good hearted man and would do anything for anyone.

Graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at Mitchell Cemetery with Pastor Joel Parsons officiating.

    Worked around Bill at Lehigh from 1979 until his retirement. Jeff, your dad gave his all for Lehigh. A very good man. Had a very long life, sorry to hear he is gone. "Chuck"

    Jeff & family, Was saddened to hear of Bill’s passing. Worked with him at Lehigh from ‘77 until he retired. Bill was truly a magician when it came to tearing apart and putting equipment back together. Not only did he know what parts it took, he knew what size bolts and nuts it took all from memory.
