WASHINGTON – William L. “Bill” Gerkin, 73, Washington, formerly of Mitchell, passed away at 10:28 a.m. Sunday, March 5, 2006, at Herman Memorial Hospital, Houston, Texas.

Born April 30, 1932, in Lawrence County, he was the son of William Lawrence and Thelma Mae (Clouse) Gerkin, Sr. He married Wanda June Clouse October 13, 1950.

He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No 250.

He was a heavy equipment operator for B&LS Construction and Ralph Rogers Group, and a member of Grace Baptist Church.

His parents; brother, Bernard Gerkin; and grandson, Seth, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 10, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Rev. Louis Showers, Rev. Jeff Jones, and Rev. Jolly Moody officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250 and Marvin R. Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call fro 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.
